The Mount Sinai HospitalJosephine Guzmán (Josie) currently serves as the Director of Community Outreach for The Mount Sinai Hospital. In this role which she has held since 2011, Josie not only oversees the execution of the hospital’s community outreach program, but works extensively to develop the Mount Sinai Physician Network and its operations, manages a number of the Network practices and oversees hospital operations for specific projects. As part of her community outreach role, Josie serves as an ambassador for Mount Sinai in her work with many community based organizations whose goals are aligned with the Hospital’s mission to provide high-quality healthcare and health education to New York City.
Josie’s passion for working with the community and in healthcare began in 2001 when she served as an administrator for the State of New York, alongside of Dr. Jose A Goris, who at the time held the position of Chairman for the Minority Health Council. In 2003, Josie transitioned to Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals as a Sales Representative, and in 2008 returned to work with the community as the general manager at Cardiology Unlimited P.D. in Washington Heights.
In 2009, Josie began her work at Mount Sinai as the Director of Satellite Practice Operations. In this role, She facilitated information and resources throughout the Mount Sinai Physician Network, which spans the New York metropolitan area. Josie was responsible for delivering timely and relevant information and resources to the Hospital and community practices, adhering to and enforcing compliance requirements, as well as ensuring that the needs in each of the diverse communities that Mount Sinai served, were met.
Josie’s work ethic and accomplishments have been recognized several times throughout her career. In 2006, Josie was the recipient of The Light House Award from her peers at Astra Zeneca for Outstanding Leadership. The following year, she received the Circle of Excellence Award and was named an Executive Pharmaceuticals Sales Representative for her outstanding sales performance and unique program development.
Josie’s success in business has been coupled with many personal accomplishments. This is largely due to her deep commitment to the health and wellness of the community in which she lives. Over the years, she has worked with many community health organizations, including The American Cancer Society‘s Smoking Cessation Program. Currently, Josie sits on the Executive Committee for the American Heart Association’s Latino Summit and the Corporate Advisory Council for Comunilife. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Couples Community in her parish – Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. There, Josie has actively helped develop a Pre-Cana program for couples in preparation of marriage and also acts as a couple’s counselor for this program.
Throughout her life, Josie Guzman has been empowered – and takes great pride in empowering others. She will be the first to tell you, “I’m involved, busy and committed.” Of Dominican descent, Josie was born and raised in New York City and was the first in her family to receive a college education. She holds an Associate’s degree from Cornell University, a Bachelor’s degree from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, and earned a Master of Science in Marketing from New York University. Josie lives in the same neighborhood that she grew up in and is gratified to know that she has opened doors for others of her gender and nationality.
